DR. MCCORDS'S 2ND ALBUM ENTITLED

RETURN OF THE BALLAD II--NEW HORIZONS

This album has a HUGE range of genres, from Rock to Country Western to Semi-classical Ballads and features a variety of instruments--brass, woodwinds, strings, percussion, bells, organ, piano, guitars, with 17 original songs professionally recorded in Las Vegas--a TOUR DE FORCE. Listen to samples to whet your appetite.

 ABOUT THE ALBUM:

The concept behind this release was to produce a sound similar to the band I had in high school, featuring trumpet, bass, keyboard and drums. Of course that was the foundation for a much richer and elaborate concert-style sound. There was also an emphasis on creating not just a variety of genres, but of sound / accompaniment, as if to give the illusion that several different recording studios were involved in the process.

Though CD albums are not as popular as decades ago, everyone has a car stereo at least. Many of these are high quality and merit high quality music. If one has a CD album as long as this one (66 minutes), then that will usually get you from point A to point B. Why listen to OLDIES of the 60s, 70s, & 80s when you can find ORIGINAL music of even better quality recording that will take you there?

Not only the latest equipment was used in this recording, but the beauty of such vintage microphones as the Neumann U67 and Robert Bock vocals provide audiophile superior results over any remastering that could be done of any oldies. THIS IS AUDIOPHILE SOUND NOT MEANT SIMPLY FOR MP3--SORRY!!!! That won't do it justice.

I have suggested to many that we need to make music a bigger part of our lives, just as we did in those decades. Only music is capable of touching the heart abstractly--even more than art, if we are lucky enough to allow it. Music can also be spiritual and at least briefly, transformative. I think this is why classical music centuries ago was based on liturgical themes.

As you listen, you will find that the voice does not necessarily stand out above the accompaniment. This is because the music will NEVER be about myself, but rather about the content & the sound.

Finally, when creating, I always "think big". Envision & constantly focus on the final product and that vision will lead you through the creative process from the writing of the music to its final studio production. At the end you may surprise yourself. I did. It should never be about fame, but rather the final product as you envision it. Believe me, it's worth the effort. Enjoy!

ABOUT THE FIRST ALBUM

Growing up in the 50s the early days of Rock & Roll were part of my heritage and daily life. The ballads of Paul Anka, groups like the Drifters, & folk music of the Kingston Trio or Limelighters made their early impression. Later I gravitated to songwriters such as Jim Webb, Elton John, innovators like McCartney & Harrison, pop music of ABBA, Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow, the R&B of the 70s with writers like Dennis Lambert / Brian Potter, Tom Bell /Linda Creed, Hawes & Jefferson (Blue Magic, Stylistics, Tavares, Spinners) where pop music seemed to peak in creativity, beauty and melody. After that, there seemed to be a gradual downward spiral of quality despite attempts of such musicians as David Foster or Celine Dion to revive it in the 90s. Record companies began to disappear. Emphasis on video & the outrageous seemed to diminish what quality was out there. Contemporary music had paralleled the demise of Detroit (“Motown”). But good music will live on forever which is why there are so many “Oldies” stations.

To bring some of that beauty back was always my dream even if the music world was looking elsewhere. So, with extra time on my hands, I began writing music & lyrics with the thought of recording them as pianist and vocalist—music that would range from soft rock to semi-classical.

The venue for recording was chosen in Las Vegas as being the closest studio with the best equipment (piano, microphones, keyboard, amps) for reproducing the sounds I wished to achieve. I was lucky enough to find an engineer that had worked with such notables as Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, and David Foster, among others. I was not disappointed in the final product.

If you enjoy tuneful melodies with audiophile quality; lyrics containing love, social, environmental and spiritual themes; and music that relaxes, you should enjoy this album.
